Property Inspection

We got a memo on our door today from the management company of our apartment. It says we have a property inspection scheduled for tomorrow between 9am and 10am. This is fine and dandy. Then it proceeds to say that if we will not be home, to leave our door unlocked. I'm sorry? Is that even legal to request? I will be home, but if I wasn't going to be, I would most certainly not leave my door unlocked simply because someone posted a note on my door requesting me to.

They got a nice little email from me requesting they consider safety hazards in the future.

um, PLUS they are required by law to give you more notice than that.

um. . . shouldn't they have a key to your place?

Yes. They DO have a key. I just got an email back from the owner of the management company apologizing and saying he agrees they should not have asked us to leave our door unlocked. I'm glad they responded. They really should have thought that one through first.

Just make sure it really is your management company that left the note! Did you use the email address that you usually use to contact them, or did you use whatever was on the form they left? Do they match? Now I'M concerned!
