Loving my baby

You know how sometimes kids just drive you crazy? They hang on you when you're in the kitchen, and grab your book while you're trying to read, and talk loudly while you're trying to watch a movie or TV show, and are just generally in the way? I've realized over the past couple weeks that those things often don't drive me crazy. In fact, I love them.

When I'm in the kitchen cooking or washing dishes, Jay wanders over and latches onto my leg. He'll hang there and pretend to eat my leg, or use my leg (instead of his hand) to do an indian call. Instead of getting frustrated and shooing him away, I stand there and think, "Yay, my baby loves me! How cute is he?" And I'll playfully bump him with my hip, then he laughs and runs away, then runs right back to me to do it again. When I'm reading my book on the couch and Jay comes over to try to take the book from me, I reach out and give him snuggles and kisses, and we often end up rolling around on the floor together because he thinks it's hilarious and I can't get enough of his smiles and laughs. Forget the book. My kid is way more entertaining. And when he's talking and yelling while I'm trying to watch a movie, I can't help but smile and laugh at him because he's so cute, and his "words" are the funniest things I've ever heard.

Of course there are times when he still drives me crazy (Stop getting into the drawer with the tin foil! And no, it's not ok 5 minutes from now either. Or tomorrow. Or ever.) , but I've become a whole lot more lax about a lot of it recently, for what reason I am not sure. I just know I adore my baby. For about 10 minutes this morning he sat in my lap and laid against my chest, and we happily spent the time together, avoiding all other household chores. It was perfect.

And here I am still avoiding household chores even though Jay is napping. Oops. Bad housewife. I guess I'll go sweep the kitchen.

You are learning it way earlier than I ever did! My biggest deal was clean bathrooms. Every day - every bathroom. Then one day I thought - Why? And my life got expedentially better from that moment on! And the bathrooms are still clean!
